Pardew: Hazard can lead Chelsea to title

Newcastle manager Alan Pardew has backed Eden Hazard to transform Chelsea into title winners and believes he may be the man to revive Fernando Torres's troubled Blues career.

Hazard and Torres combined to torment Pardew's Newcastle in Saturday's 2-0 win for the European champions at Stamford Bridge and the Newcastle boss has backed the £82.5 million duo to sparkle consistently this season.

"You can see why so many top clubs were chasing Hazard and he has certainly given Chelsea an extra dimension in the first few games of this season," said Pardew.

"My team won 2-0 at Stamford Bridge last May, but Chelsea have a little bit more than they had in their locker last season with Hazard.

"He has that little bit of arrogance and composure top players tend to have when they get on the ball and he was a real threat against us. He may only have played three games for Chelsea, but everyone can see how good he is going to be."

Pardew's praise of Torres was equally forthright, after he saw the Spaniard lash home a stunning goal against his team.

"That was as good as I have seen Torres play in some time and I have seen a lot of him," he said. "He looks to have a little something back in his game and looked dangerous playing Hazard. It is still the old Chelsea in many ways, but Hazard and Torres are giving them a little extra up front and they will have a good season."
