Mancini hits out at Aguero call-up

Roberto Mancini has told Argentina it is "impossible" for Sergio Aguero to play for them in next month's World Cup qualifiers.

• Aguero back after break

The Manchester City manager was annoyed that Aguero was included in Alejandro Sabella's squad for games against Paraguay on September 7 and Peru four days later.

And now the 24-year-old striker is embroiled in a club-versus-country row as City believe he will not be fit for international duty.

Aguero twisted his right knee in Sunday's 3-2 win over Southampton and, while the injury is not as bad as they had initially feared, City do not believe he can return that soon.

They have earmarked September 15's trip to Stoke for Aguero's comeback and Mancini is adamant he should not play sooner.

"It is impossible," the Italian said. "Sergio needs a minimum of two weeks without training and maybe two weeks [of training before] he can play again. He can't go."

Argentina are entitled to get their own doctors to examine Aguero to determine if he is fit, but that would mean the striker would have to travel to South America – leaving Mancini frustrated with FIFA's regulations.

"They are ridiculous rules," he added.
