Everton to bring in teenager Niang

Everton are ready to strike a £2 million deal to sign M'Baye Niang after the striker impressed manager David Moyes during a trial.

The France Under-21 striker is set to leave Caen after they were relegated from France's Ligue 1 in May.

Niang, 17, spent a few days at Everton's Finch Farm training base earlier this month.

Moyes, who is determined to carefully use the remainder of the £12 million received from Manchester City for midfielder Jack Rodwell, feels the teenager is worth signing.

The manager has already strengthened his attack by bringing in Belgium international Kevin Mirallas from Olympiakos for £5.3 million, and feels the addition of Niang's raw potential will add to his options.

Niang made an instant impact as the youngest first-team player in Caen's history at the back end of the 2010-11 season.

He became the second-youngest scorer in Ligue 1 history, aged 16 years 139 days, with a goal against Lens in May 2011.

He struggled with injuries last season, scoring only twice in 14 starts as Caen were relegated, which is one of the reasons that Moyes is reluctant to pay too much.

Niang, who can also play on the wing, has been discussing his options with his father, who is also his agent.
