Ligue 1 side Rennes have confirmed the capture of Aston Villa midfielder Jean II Makoun on a season-long loan deal.
Makoun, 29, had been expected to complete a move away from Aston Villa this summer after failing to secure a work permit for the coming season.
The Cameroon international spent last season on loan with Olympiakos in Greece, but had set his mind on a return to France.
"We were looking for an experienced midfielder. I know him very well because I signed him when I was at Lille," team manager Pierre Dreossi told the club's official website.
Makoun arrives at Rennes as a direct replacement for the freshly departed Alexander Tettey, with the Norwegian having joined Norwich earlier on Friday.
