Stoke move for Huddlestone not dead

Tony Pulis has not ruled out completing Tom Huddlestone's season-long loan to Stoke City – despite reports the proposed deal has collapsed.

Stoke manager Pulis insists that negotiations with Spurs over signing of the England midfielder remain on-going.

Stoke are believed to have raised some concerns regarding the structure and fine-print of the deal as Huddlestone attempts to return following 12-months out with an ankle injury, which has required two operations.

Club owner Peter Coates is determined to protect Stoke's interest regarding the 25-year-old – following the situation Aston Villa found themselves in last season with Jermaine Jenas.

Jenas ruptured his Achilles playing for Villa in the early stages of a 12-month loan from Spurs, leaving the Midlands club to pick up the tab for his wages, despite losing him for the remainder of the campaign.

Stoke were initially unhappy with the terms of the agreement with Spurs and Pulis will attempt to revisit the possible deal after Sunday's Premier League game against Arsenal.

Huddlestone was expected to complete his move in time to be considered for the squad to face Arsene Wenger's side, but there are no suggestions of a failed medical.

He has not played a competitive game for almost a year with his last appearance coming on August 28 against Manchester City.

Aston Villa and Sunderland were also informed about his availability on loan as Spurs manager Andre Villas-Boas looks revamps the squad he has inherited from Harry Redknapp.
