Rodgers: Sahin 'quality' will help Reds

Brendan Rodgers has backed Nuri Sahin to get his career back on track and add a touch of class to Liverpool's midfield.

Rodgers has confirmed that a season-long loan deal to bring Sahin in from Real Madrid should be completed within 24 hours.

Sahin, 23, was not expected to be registered with the Premier League in time to play any part against Manchester City at Anfield on Sunday.

But Rodgers is confident that the Turkey international will shine on Merseyside after an injury-hit year in Spain.

Sahin joined Madrid from Borussia Dortmund last summer, but a knee injury kept him out of action until November, and he struggled to establish himself after that, playing only four league games all season.

"He's a great technician," Rodgers said. "If you go back, he was the player of the season in Germany and the captain of Dortmund.

"He was fantastic at a very young age and got a move to Real Madrid, and due to injuries and various factors, it hasn't worked out for him.

"But he's a wonderful player technically and tactically. He understands the game, and we hope that his extra bit of quality will really help the group.

"We hope things will be complete over the weekend. I believe from the club that everything has been organised and sorted in terms of paperwork. So we hope in the next 24 hours that can be done."
