Wenger predicts Bendtner sale

Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger has revealed that striker Nicklas Bendtner is set to leave the club before the end of the transfer window - but the French coach will only add to his squad if he can snap up a 'special' player.

Bendtner, 24, has been linked with a shock move to AC Milan and Wenger has confirmed he is free to leave in the next week. He has also given Arsenal fans hope that he may make a major signing in the coming days after he lost out to Liverpool in the race for Nuri Sahin.

"It is possible that Bendtner will leave and also possible that we will make a move in the market ourselves if we can find a special player," Wenger said. "I am clear about what we want to do in the coming days and hopefully it will happen."

Wenger insists the failure to land Sahin in a loan deal is not a hammer blow to his plans, as he believes he has more than enough options in the centre of the park. "We have nine midfielders, with Jack Wilshere set to come back in the next few weeks," he said.

"This is the reason we decided to let Alex Song go to Barcelona. We have enough in midfield. He wanted to leave, we were happy to sell and now he is playing for Barcelona.

"I would like to remind people who question this kind of decision that Song was once described as the worst player I had ever signed and now he is playing for Barcelona. It shows that we are not doing everything so badly here."
