West Ham complete Jarvis signing

West Ham have confirmed the signing of winger Matt Jarvis from Wolves for a club record fee of almost £11 million.

The deal follows a long pursuit of Jarvis which had seen the Hammers have two previous offers rejected by Molineux officials.

Jarvis, 26, has been capped once by England and put pen to paper on a five-year Upton Park deal. He will be available for the club's game at Swansea on Saturday.

West Ham manager Sam Allardyce said he believed he had signed one of the best crossers in the game, adding: "From my point of view, it is a big piece of business. He has got a lot of qualities that will add to the team we have already got.

"This is one of the best final-third crossers in the Premier League. His stats are extremely good and he delivers at the business end of the field.

"When you are trying to create in the Premier League and score goals, he is one of those players who can give defences a really hard time. That is what we are hoping he can do for us.

"It's a new dimension for us because this is a player of dribbling skills, pace, trickery - a player that not only provides chances but also relieves pressure on your defence.

"We've paid really good money for Matt - he gives us something that we haven't got already and you have to pay for that. You have to pay for the quality that you need in the Premier League."

Reports suggested officials from the two clubs held talks deep into Wednesday night before finally striking the deal. Jarvis then travelled to East London to discuss personal terms and undergo a medical.

West Ham tabled what was described as a "take it or leave it" offer earlier this week. That fee - around £7.5 million up front with the rest to follow in add-ons - finally ended the transfer saga.

Wolves manager Stole Salbakken had said after the club's 3-1 home win against Barnsley on Tuesday that discussions over Jarvis were "now on the top political level".

FC Copenhagen's Christian Bolanos, a Costa Rica international valued at around £3 million, has been mooted as potential replacement for Jarvis.
