Cruyff aims jibe at 'the Only One'

Barcelona legend Johan Cruyff has poured scorn on Jose Mourinho's new nickname, suggesting an inferiority complex was behind the Real Madrid boss' decision to dub himself 'the Only One'.

• Graham Hunter on Supercopa
• Mourinho: Supercopa of little importance
• Vilanova not feeling the pressure

Mourinho, who has been known as 'the Special One' after using the phrase in his first press conference as Chelsea manager in 2004, recently claimed he deserved a new moniker after coaching teams to the English, Italian and Spanish league titles.

However, former Barca manager Cruyff believes it is a case of the Portuguese was trying to make up for something that he lacks: a glittering playing career.

"As a player he was not up to much and now he is able to do something," said Cruyff, who won three Ballon d'Or awards during his own superb playing career. "How do you make sense of some calling themselves 'the only one'?

"It is good to put that name on a jersey, but nothing more. I do not like that sort of behaviour."

Thursday brings a first real test for new Barcelona boss Tito Vilanova with Mourinho's Madrid visiting Camp Nou for the Spanish Supercopa first leg.

Cruyff, whose own term as coach of the Catalan giants brought four consecutive La Liga titles and the 1992 European Cup, feels it will take time to see how Vilanova gets on in the job.

"He must show his worth when times are bad," Cruyff said. "We must wait to make a decision. It is not the same as being in the background with Pep Guardiola in front. That is something different."

The Dutchman, who was visiting the 'Cruyff Sports' shop in the Catalan town of Platja d'Aro accompanied by former Barcelona president Joan Laporta, again took the opportunity to criticise the way current incumbent Sandro Rosell is running the iconic club.

"His philosophy is not the same as mine," Cruyff said. "I have no connection with his regime. He cannot use my name for his campaigns. With him, I do not see at all that Barca is 'more than a club'".
