Pardew confirms Europa absentees

Alan Pardew has told his players to seize their chance when they play Atromitos in Europa League on Thursday night, with Newcastle set to be forced into changes.

Newcastle started their league season with a 2-1 victory over Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday evening, but will be without key figures for the continental fixture.

Speaking to the Evening Chronicle, Pardew said: "Unfortunately we've experienced a number of enforced changes. Demba Ba is injured, Cheick Tiote is injured and Shane Ferguson is out. Sammy Ameobi and Haris Vuckic are also out. It's a real shame because I was looking forward to them getting a chance in Europe for us."

Pardew's squad flew out early on Wednesday and included 17-year-old striker Adam Campbell, after the player scored a hat-trick for the club's second string at the weekend.

The Magpies boss confirmed his intention to use some of the squad's youngsters, adding: "One or two of the younger players will be involved. It's a chance for some of the new guys to impress. Hopefully we're all set for the game and we can progress.

"If we were offered a draw maybe we would take it. But hopefully we can win the game and make things easier for the second leg."

If Campbell does make an appearance for the Magpies, he will become the club's youngest ever representative in European competition - overtaking the previous record-holder, Andy Carroll.
