Valencia lead Cissokho chase

Valencia are closing in on a deal for Lyon left-back Aly Cissokho but face competition from Newcastle United and Napoli.

• Cissokho wants to leave Lyon

Cissokho, 24, has spent three seasons at the Stade Gerland after leaving Porto for €15 million in 2009 but is expected to move on this summer.

Valencia-based newspaper Superdeporte believes Lyon want €9 million for the defender, who has one cap for France, but that Los Che - seeking a replacement for Jordi Alba - have offered only €4.5 million.

France's L'Equipe believes Valencia are prepared to pay €7 million but, while Lyon are expecting to sell him, the Spanish club face rival interest for his signature.

"His case is in progress," Bernard Lacombe, advisor to Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas, said, "but Newcastle and Napoli are eyeing him too. There is a high probability Aly will leave the club. If he does, we could sign Fabian Monzon, from Nice, to replace him."

If Cissokho does join Valencia, he will in competition with fellow France international Jeremy Mathieu for the left-back position.
