Four-goal Faris dreams of AFC Cup final

N'Zogbia determined to impress

Charles N'Zogbia is determined to put a miserable and acrimonious first 12 months behind him at Aston Villa.

• Live Transfer Blog: On the Move

N'Zogbia, who signed from Wigan for £9.5 million last summer, endured a desperate first season on the pitch and also became entwined in a number of disagreements with former manager Alex McLeish.

McLeish questioned his application and struggled to find a solution to the conundrum of how to get the best out of the winger.

There were even suggestions that N'Zogbia was ready to leave the club and seek another fresh start, but the French international is ready to put the smile back on his face under new manager Paul Lambert.

N'Zogbia is so content with the new regime at Villa he is happy to play whatever attacking role Lambert demands of him to prove himself to sceptical Villa fans.

He has pledged to rediscover the form which persuaded owner Randy Lerner to pay nearly £10 million a year ago and to help solve Villa's lack of goals, with Gabby Agbonlahor out injured for several weeks.

N'Zogbia wants to help take the pressure off England striker Darren Bent as Lambert continues his search to bring in more attacking power.

He is ready to join up with Bent as a more central striker if required, but is content to carry out Lambert's orders in whatever position he has handed.

"I've played in that position just behind the striker before so for me it is nothing new," N'Zogbia said. "If the manager asks me to play in that position I would play because I know what to do. And if I am playing in another position, I am happy to play there.

"For me it's just to be on the pitch, doing my best and winning the game. I definitely need to be getting a few more goals and a few more assists. That would be good and it would be good to be happy playing for Villa.

"The thing I've got in my mind is just to play my best, to show my skills. That would be a good start."
