Schalke set to sell Baumjohann, Annan

Schalke are attempting to offload fringe players Alexander Baumjohann and Anthony Annan despite coach Huub Stevens lauding the benefits of a big squad after his side's 5-0 win away to Saarbrucken in the first round of the DFB-Pokal on Sunday.

Stevens currently has 28 players at his disposal but that number is likely to be reduced by at least two in the next few days with midfielders Baumjohann and Annan tipped to leave the Royal Blues.

It appears former Germany Under-21 international Baumjohann, who signed for his hometown club in 2010 from Bayern Munich, has no future at Schalke and this weekend he tweeted: "I wish you all a great and sunny weekend. I am hoping to announce where my future lies over the next few days."

Second division club Kaiserslautern have already confirmed their interest and, according to Sky Sport News Germany, Baumjohann did not train with Schalke on Monday morning.

Annan, meanwhile, is rumoured to be a target of La Liga outfit Osasuna and could reportedly complete a switch to Spain this week.

Schalke general manager Horst Heldt confirmed on the club's official Facebook page that a bid had been accepted for the Ghana international from an unnamed club, saying: "We received an official offer and we have accepted it. We are waiting for the player's decision."

Annan, who starred for his country at the 2010 World Cup, moved to Schalke for €2.5 million from Rosenborg last January, but only made nine appearances in his first season, before spending last term on loan at Vitesse Arnhem, where he featured in 23 matches.

Heldt also confirmed Schalke are in contract talks with Christoph Moritz and Lewis Holtby, who are both in the last year of their current deals contracts. The Royal Blues are still also looking to extend Klaas-Jan Huntelaar's contract, with the Dutch striker has yet to commit his future to the club.
