Butland wants senior experience

Jack Butland is waiting on talks between Roy Hodgson and Stuart Pearce before discovering whether he will be given the chance to push to become England's senior number one.

•  Liverpool warned off Butland

Birmingham's teenage star became England's youngest international goalkeeper against Italy in Switzerland and has made no secret of his intention to push Joe Hart for top spot in the World Cup qualifiers.

The 19-year-old has made a massive impression on the senior staff following his meteoric rise this summer, but fears he may be dropped back down to Pearce's under-21s squad.

England's first qualifiers are next month against Moldova and Ukraine and Butland has revealed there are more talks planned over his international future in the next couple of weeks.

He held discussions with England boss Hodgson in the aftermath of the 2-1 win in Berne last Wednesday, but what level his immediate international future will be played at has yet to be finalised.

"We had a conversation after the game in Switzerland about where I would be playing for England from now on," said Butland.

"There are still talks to be had with Stuart Pearce and I will have to wait and see. It was a fantastic experience for me to be involved with the squad and to play for the senior side. But understandably Joe [Hart] is going to be back soon and providing he is fit he will play the qualifiers. Then it will just be a balancing act deciding whether I go to the under-21s or whether I stay with the senior squad and get experience there, which obviously would not be playing time. There's nothing better than playing games but I also want to stay as close to that senior squad as I can."
