Milan and Inter in Cassano talks

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has confirmed that talks have begun with Inter Milan over the possible exchange of strikers Antonio Cassano and Giampaolo Pazzini.

Rumours of a deal began to circulate last week amid Cassano's reported frustration at what he sees as a disappointing summer for Milan in the transfer market, while Pazzini has been deemed surplus to requirements by Inter coach Andrea Stramaccioni.

Galliani spoke to the media following Sunday night's Trofeo Berlusconi loss to Juventus, telling reporters: "We'll talk with the president and the coach, consider things and then make a decision.

"There are negotiations in place - there is no doubt about that - and we will see. As with all negotiations, they can conclude positively or negatively. I will not deny that something is stirring.

"It's a shame. I think that, despite the qualities of Cassano, it's not a good idea to keep players against their will - it would not be good for Cassano or Milan. Let's see how this situation evolves."

Cassano's frustration stems from Milan's sale of both Thiago Silva and Zlatan Ibrahimovic to Paris Saint-Germain. He was omitted from the Milan side that played Juventus in the final friendly of the summer.

Reports say any deal would not be a straight swap, with Inter demanding a figure of between €5 million and €8 million because of Pazzini's value on their books compared with that of Cassano.

La Gazzetta dello Sport says Inter may yet opt to drop the exchange idea and buy Cassano outright, allowing them to continue negotiations with either Napoli or Juventus, who have both expressed interest in Pazzini.
