Roma coach Zdenek Zeman is confident that Daniele De Rossi will stay at the Stadio Olimpico this season after speculation mounted in the Italian press over the weekend that Manchester City will launch a new bid to sign him.
De Rossi has long been identified as a transfer target by City boss Roberto Mancini and reports have suggested the Premier League champions are ready to test Roma's resolve to hold on to the midfielder.
But in the Giallorossi's friendly victory over Greek side Aris Salonika the club's fans showed their appreciation for De Rossi, and Zeman followed that up reiterating his intention not to sell.
"The club knows that Daniele is important for me. I think he will stay," Zeman told reporters after his side's 3-0 win.
Prior to kick off ,the announcer at the Stadio Olimpico introduced the midfielder with the words: "He chose Roma for life. Our most important signing: Daniele De Rossi". One banner in the crowd read: "Hands off De Rossi!".
Roma supporters chanted the Italy international's name throughout and a club official revealed that De Rossi will hold a press conference on Tuesday, in which it is believed he will stress his dedication to the club and once again attempt to quash rumours of a move to Manchester.
