Reports: Arsenal, Nuri Sahin close to deal
Arsenal is close to signing midfielder Nuri Sahin on a season-long loan from Real Madrid, according to multiple reports.
Sahin would help replace Alex Song, who left Arsenal on a transfer to Barcelona on Saturday.
Without Song, Arsenal is thin in midfield. Jack Wilshere won't return from ankle and knee injuries until October, and Tomas Rosicky injured his Achilles tendon during Euro 2012. Abou Diaby is fit after numerous leg injuries.
Nicklas Bendtner is also expected to leave ahead of the transfer deadline. However, manager Asene Wenger played down reports Bendtner is set to move to Italy next week.
Wenger said Saturday that Arsenal was looking to bring in another midfielder.
Liverpool has also been linked to acquiring Sahin. The Daily Mirror reported that Sahin chose Arsenal even though Liverpool offered better terms.
Sahin was born in Germany but plays for Turkey. He made just 10 appearances for Madrid last season, starting three Champions League matches.
