Johnson to seek City talks

Adam Johnson is to seek clarification over his Manchester City future amid reports he could be set to join Sunderland.

• Live Transfer Blog: On the Move

Johnson, 25, signed for City from Middlesbrough in 2010 for £7 million but has since made just 39 Premier League starts for the club.

This summer it has been suggested he could leave Eastlands in search of regular first-team football, and Sunderland are said to be keen on his signature.

A number of newspapers claim a £10 million deal could be in the offing, and the winger has confirmed he will speak to boss Roberto Mancini about his future.

"I haven't really spoken to him - but I will," Johnson said, according to the Daily Star. "In the next few weeks we'll find out what is happening."

Johnson went on to express his disappointment at missing out on being named in England's Euro 2012 squad, citing his lack of playing time as the cause for the snub.

"I think that was part of why I missed out in the summer, as I didn't play regularly enough," he said.

"That is in the past now but I think that is important. If Roy Hodgson wants me in the England set-up - and I enjoyed every minute of playing against Italy on Wednesday - that is all that matters."

Mancini, meanwhile, accepts Johnson's desire for consistent starts, having been impressed with his display on Wednesday as England beat Italy 2-1.

He said: "I'm happy for him after his performance with England. Adam is a player who deserves to play because he's a good player.

"But it is not easy for me because I can play only eleven players. I can understand why he's frustrated."

Tottenham are also believed to be keen on Johnson, although they want to finalise the sale of Luka Modric to Real Madrid before they reinvest the proceeds in midfield reinforcements.
