Dzeko risked injury for Bosnia

Edin Dzeko could face the wrath of Manchester City manager Roberto Mancini after it emerged that the striker played for Bosnia-Herzegovina with a knee injury.

• Dzeko hints at Milan move

Dzeko's future at Eastlands remains uncertain after making just seven Premier League starts last season, although Mancini has suggested the Bosnian is likely to stay despite interest from Juventus.

However, Dzeko could find himself in hot water with Mancini after playing 90 minutes in Bosnia's 2-0 win over Wales at Parc-y-Scarlets on Wednesday, despite carrying a knee injury.

"There was a question about him starting because he has a problem with his knee and maybe he should not have played," Bosnia coach Safet Susic said. "But I left it for him to decide whether he wanted to. There was a problem with his knee. We spoke and I said it was up to him."

Despite Dzeko's frustration at seeing Carlos Tevez, Sergio Aguero and Mario Balotelli ahead of him in the pecking order, Susic expects the striker to play a key role this season, with City chasing trophies on four fronts.

"Knowing him, he always wants to play," he said. "But he is at a big team where there is big competition where he plays. There are a lot of extremely good players at Manchester City but the hope for me is that there are also a lot of matches in different competitions so, even if he is not in the league games, he will still play lots of times."
