Pulis may resurrect Popov loan move

Stoke manager Tony Pulis is considering an appeal against Goran Popov's work permit rejection, in a bid to push through a loan move for the Dynamo Kiev left-back.

Pulis has been informed Popov's proposed 12-month loan has collapsed because of his problems to obtain a work permit.

Stoke are investigating the situation in the hope of finding a solution to the international clearance issue, which leaves the Macedonia international facing the prospect of returning to Ukraine.

Popov believes his work permit application was blocked because one of the criteria is that Macedonia have to be placed at 70 or better in FIFA's world rankings.

Macedonia have fallen from 60 to 102 in the rankings and unless Stoke can find a solution, Pulis will be forced to recommence his search for a left back at the Britannia Stadium.

"I like to play here and everything was ready for me to sign, but then they say there is problem with work permit," Popov said. "It is so difficult with the Macedonia national team because we are ranked 102. Before we were in 60th place and that was good, but now it is bad.

"I have 42 games for the national team and I play 75 per cent of games for them in the last two years. The problem is not the clubs - Stoke City or Dynamo Kiev - the problem is the rules here in England. This is the problem for players like me from Macedonia.

"It is crazy. I cannot believe. Everything is ready, then you go back to old club in Kiev. This was my dream from [when I was] young because I like English football, but now I wait."

Popov has played all across Europe for teams including Red Star Belgrade, Egaleo and Heerenveen, before moving to Kiev in 2010. Last season Popov made 16 league appearances for Dynamo as they finished second in the Ukrainian Premier League.

Popov insists he would have cracked it in England had he been given the chance to prove himself during his planned season on loan at the Britannia Stadium.

"I trust that after one year I sign a contract and I am staying at Stoke City," he said. "Maybe if they arrange something, I can come back."
