Valdez relishing Valencia opportunity

Paraguayan striker Nelson Haedo Valdez says his move to Valencia from Rubin Kazan makes sense for both footballing and family reasons.

• Soldado: I rejected Tottenham's advances

Valdez is to sign for Valencia on Thursday on a 12-month loan deal which includes an option to buy for a reported €3 million next summer.

"Coming to such a great club gives me tremendous joy," Valdez said on his arrival in Spain. "I hope to pass the medical tests and officially become a Valencia player. I am coming with all the motivation in the world to perform as well as possible."

Valdez said it had been difficult to settle in Russia without his family and specifically thanked Rubin manager Kurban Berdiev for facilitating the move.

"Until now my daughter could not go to school and my family could not live with me in Kazan," the player said. "It was difficult for them and for me. Berdiev understood my problems and has let me move."

The Paraguayan international, 28, scored eight goals in 26 games while at loan at Hercules in La Liga in 2010-11. He signed for the Russians for £3.5 million 12 months ago, and also featured for Bundesliga sides Borussia Dortmund and Werder Bremen, scoring twice for the latter against Valencia in a 2004-05 Champions League game.

Los Che sporting director Braulio Vazquez has welcomed the move.

"He is a very important player for us, a forward who complements those we already have," said Vazquez. "He is strong, a hard worker, quick and will bring us goals. We have a lot of confidence in him."

Valdez, who will be officially presented as a Valencia player on Thursday afternoon before joining his new teammates at training ahead of Sunday's La Liga opener at Real Madrid, could also be joined at La Mestalla by Lyon left-back Aly Cissokho according to local paper Super Deporte, which says Cissokho's arrival may be financed by the €5 million sale of winger Pablo Hernandez to Premier League side Swansea.
