Modric closes on Real Madrid move

ESPN understands that Tottenham midfielder Luka Modric will complete a move to Real Madrid over the coming days if the Premier League club can find a replacement.

Modric, 26, has continued to train apart from the rest of the squad as he looks to leave White Hart Lane and Spurs are reported to have agreed to sell him to Real for an initial fee of £23.6 million, plus a further £3.9 million in add-ons.

With the Croatia international flying to Spain on Thursday to complete a medical and finalise the deal on paper, although it is expected that the announcement will be delayed to allow Spurs time to find a replacement, with Joao Moutinho, Yann M'Vila and Nuri Sahin linked.

Spurs already have central midfielder Gylfi Sigurdsson to fill the void and may look to reignite bids for Lyon goalkeeper Hugo Lloris and Bologna's Gaston Ramirez after seeing earlier efforts rebuffed.
