Valdez set for Valencia

Valencia are set to announce the signing of Paraguay striker Nelson Valdez from Russian club Rubin Kazan for €2 million plus extras.

• Canales signs for Valencia

Spanish daily AS reports that Valdez, 28, has agreed personal terms with Valencia and says the final details of the deal are almost ironed out.

The deep-lying forward was surplus to requirements at Rubin after the Russians signed Salomon Rondon from Malaga last week, while Valencia have been looking for attacking reinforcements since selling Aritz Aduriz to Athletic Bilbao earlier this summer.

Valdez scored eight goals in 26 games while at loan at Hercules in La Liga in 2010-11. He signed for the Russians for £3.5 million 12 months ago, and also featured for Bundesliga sides Borussia Dortmund and Werder Bremen, scoring twice for the latter against Valencia in a 2004-05 Champions League game.

Valencia sporting director Braulio Vazquez and president Manuel Llorente are also keen to sign a new left-back before La Liga begins next week, with last year's first choice Jordi Alba having left for Barcelona.

Lyon's Aly Cissokho is their main target, according to AS but with the French side asking in the region of €8 million, Vazquez and Llorente could turn their sights to Malaga's Nacho Monreal.
