Atkins brace lifts Wembley FC

Wembley FC began their FA Cup campaign with a 3-2 win over Langford Town in the Extra Preliminary Round.

A host of former football internationals including Ray Parlour, Martin Keown, Graeme Le Saux, Claudio Caniggia and Brian McBride stepped out for Combined Counties Premier Division side and took an early lead when former Argentina international Caniggia slid the ball past the Langford goalkeeper.

Langford got an equaliser, but with former England boss and Wembley FC technical advisor Terry Venables on the sidelines, the side rallied and young Wembley striker Daryl Atkins netted a brace before a final consolation goal.

Atkins was Wembley's leading scorer last season with 32 goals and he admitted after the game: "This is right up there with anything I have done. I was playing pub football before this so to be on the same pitch as these great players was immense and amazing.

Venables added: "It was a game worthy of an FA Cup tie. Langford kept fighting and that made it hard for us. They pushed us all the way and you have to hope that you get the winning goal.

"[Atkins] has got something - no doubt about that. He works his socks off too - more than most. I am not going to say what he can do, but it has been there to be seen today."
