Hammers wrap up Diarra signing

West Ham have completed the signing of Alou Diarra, with the France international agreeing a three-year deal and joining for a reported £2 million.

The Hammers confirmed the arrival of Diarra, 31, from Marseille soon after disclosing that they were on the verge of "tying up a major new signing".

He said he was "very happy to be here at West Ham", telling the East London club's official website: "I know a lot about West Ham, and when I knew they were interested in signing me I knew it would be a good choice for me.

"I know of players who were here before, like Paolo Di Canio and Scott Parker, but of the players now in the team, I know Guy [Demel], Mo [Diame] and of course Modibo Maiga, who played in the French league last year.

"The club has just been promoted and I am looking forward to a good challenge ahead. I hope that my experience can help, and the fans will see me give my all in the matches."

Diarra is Hammers manager Sam Allardyce's eighth summer capture, and reports on Friday suggested he could be closing in on a ninth, targeting Wolves winger Matt Jarvis.

The midfielder - who also had a disappointing three years at Gerard Houllier's Liverpool, spending most of that time on loan - played for France at Euro 2012 but arrived back at his club six days late and was fined £40,000.
