Mazzarri: Napoli can beat Juve

Walter Mazzarri says Juventus are a great team but believes his Napoli side are more than ready for the challenge when the two meet in Saturday's Italian Super Cup.

"Juve have players of a very high level and added more who belong in that squad," Mazzarri told a press conference. "Both Juventus and Napoli are still a work in progress considering it is August, but we are motivated to push beyond our limits."

Juventus will be without Antonio Conte due to his ten-month ban, but Mazzarri believes it will not adversely affect the Bianconeri.

"At Juve there are many players who know how to draw positive energy from difficult moments," he said prior to the announcement. "It doesn't matter whether Conte is there or not. If a coach does a good job during the week, then it makes little difference if he's not on the bench for the game itself. It happened to me a few times."

Mazzarri was joined at the media session by club captain Paolo Cannavaro and he recalled the last time his side won this competition in 1990, when Diego Maradona inspired an emphatic 5-1 victory over Juventus.

"This game really fires us up and the fact we're playing against Juve makes it even more special," he said. "We'd love to bring the Italian Super Cup to the city, just as the club did so many years ago.

"Will winning the Italian Super Cup create more pressure and expectations on us? We can't worry about that. In any case, let's focus on this match first and foremost; the rest can come later."
