Stramaccioni: Inter still have work to do

Inter Milan coach Andrea Stramaccioni believes his side are "incomplete" as they prepare for the second leg of their Europa League third qualifying round tie against Hajduk Split.

The Nerazzuri won the first leg 3-0 in Croatia and many believe them to be among the early favourites for the competition, but Stramaccioni still thinks there is much work to do before the Serie A season gets under way later this month.

"Our first game, for its personality and way of playing, has given us a good feeling initially," he said.

"I also saw things going wrong and I am trying to work on them. I defy anyone not to get things wrong on August 10, but for personality and our style, we are there. Now we must improve the things that went wrong. We are neither elated by the result nor concerned about the mistakes."

Stramaccioni, surprisingly confirmed as coach for the forthcoming season after taking temporary charge in March - was questioned over Inter's transfer policy after losing first Ezequiel Lavezzi and, most recently, Lucas Moura to French side Paris Saint-Germain.

"Individuality cannot change the idea of a team," he said. "I think it's important we focus on players who can be useful and functional. The characteristics of the team go beyond a single name. I would see a problem if a player arrived who did not function in the way we play, when the first name on the list fades it is not a problem.

"The important thing is that we are clear ourselves. I would be worried if by August 31 the players with the characteristics I am after have not arrived, but I'm not worried at this time.

"I'm happy with the relationship I have with the management. I listen, and they listen to my ideas, I'm fortunate to have a president with whom I can talk about football also technically. I get on with him very well, but for all the decisions I take the final responsibility. So far, no player has arrived without my approval."
