Sao Paulo confirm Lucas approach

Paris Saint-Germain have been in contact with Sao Paulo about a €45 million deal for Lucas Moura, the Brazilian club have confirmed.

• Moratti: PSG have bid €45m for Lucas

Sao Paulo vice-president Joao Paulo de Jesus Lopes, speaking to newspaper Le 10 Sport, said officials from the big-spending French club had approached them about signing the 19-year-old.

Lucas has been linked with a move to Manchester United - who have already tabled a bid for him - while Inter Milan have admitted the player's valuation is too expensive.

"We have been probed by PSG about Lucas," Lopes said, revealing that Leonardo, the PSG sporting director and a former Sao Paulo player, was in regular contact with the club.

"Leonardo has a very good relationship with Sao Paulo," he said. "But, for now, nothing is definite."

Reports suggest that the terms of a transfer to PSG would see Moura staying in Brazil until January, but Lopes stressed that the player would have the final say on any transfer.

"The possibility [of a move to Paris] exists, but it is down to the player's interests," he said. "The policy of Sao Paulo is to follow the desires of the player.

"If the player wishes to leave, Sao Paulo will not create any obstacle. But we must receive a proposal that is appropriate.

"It's a financial issue. Paris Saint-Germain is a big club in European football, and if the player's interests and also the club's are met, I do not see why it would not happen."

On Monday, the Inter Milan president Massimo Moratti claimed PSG had offered Sao Paulo €45 million for Lucas, a fee he described as "completely illogical".

He said Inter were now definitely out of the running to sign Lucas because they are unable to compete with the financial might of the Qatari-backed Paris outfit.

"We would never have gone up to that sum," Moratti told Sky Sport Italia. "In any case, there are no regrets that we didn't finish off the move, as the cost was already pretty high a few days ago.

"The €45 million that PSG offered is completely illogical, and for us it would have been very out of key with our approach. PSG are starting a new era, so they are completely reconstructing the squad. At least I can relish the fact I'm saving money."
