Dusseldorf swoop for Voronin

Andriy Voronin has returned to the Bundesliga, signing for newly promoted Fortuna Dusseldorf on a season-long loan from Dinamo Moscow.

Voronin, 33, made his name in Germany, starting his career at Borussia Monchengladbach under Norbert Meier who is now in charge at Dusseldorf.

He also played for Mainz, Cologne and Bayer Leverkusen before spending three disappointing years on the books of Liverpool. He joined Hertha Berlin on loan before moving to the Russian league in 2010.

Voronin said he was delighted to be reunited with the man who gave him his chance in professional football: "Norbert Meier took me from the youth team to the professionals and I celebrated my Bundesliga debut under him. Therefore, the fact that Norbert is coach of Fortuna played a decisive role in my decision.

"I am delighted to be returning to the Bundesliga.''

Fortuna's director of sport Wolf Werner said: "We are delighted to have been able to sign a striker in Andriy Voronin who has already celebrated numerous triumphs in his career.

"We are pleased to have been able to sign a striker with his quality. We are certain that he will demonstrate his goalscoring qualities with us.''
