Wolves sign Doumbia

Wolves have completed the loan signing of Rennes midfielder Seydou Doumbia on a one-year loan as the club continue their preparations for the Championship.

Doumbia, 22, who came close to joining West Brom earlier in the month, becomes Wolves' third major signing of the summer, following Bjorn Sigurdarsson and Frank Nouble through the doors.

The Mali international, who describes himself as a "box-to-box" midfielder, will now look to help the club regain their top-flight status. Doumbia also revealed how manager Stale Solbakken personally convinced him to join the Black Country side.

"I am really looking forward to playing for the fans and the manager," he said. "I want to help the team as much as I can as we aim for promotion. There were other clubs interested I had a good feeling about Wolves as soon as I spoke to the manager. He told me personally about his plans and showed that interest in me which was good to hear.

"I have a lot of friends playing in Europe who knew about the manager and one of my team-mates at Rennes - Alexander Tettey - is a Norwegian international. They all spoke highly of him and when you have that good feeling about a manager it is important. I also know Steven Mouyokolo very well and I am sure he will help me settle in. I hope I can do well and make the fans happy and also carry on to improve as well."

It has been an eventful day at Molineux, with chief executive Jez Moxey warning off Sunderland in their pursuit of Steven Fletcher.

The Black Cats submitted an offer for the Scotland international, but have seen that rejected by the Championship side.

Moxey told the Wolverhampton Express and Star: "We are not getting drawn on offers for players in or out. Our best players are not for sale; we want to keep them and build the strongest possible team for the season ahead.

"We will do everything we can to retain the players we want to keep and continue to look to strengthen with new signings.''
