Saborio at the double

Alvaro Saborio scored twice as Real Salt Lake beat ten-man Vancouver Whitecaps 2-1 to move to within a point of the leaders in Major League Soccer's Western Conference.

Saborio netted a penalty after 34 minutes and then added his second goal 13 minutes into the second half.

Vancouver's goal came from Darren Mattocks after 52 minutes but the visitors had substitute Brad Knighton sent off with 12 minutes remaining.

Real trail leaders San Jose Earthquakes by one point while the defeat has left the Whitecaps eight points off second spot.
