Galliani confirms Yanga-Mbiwa bid

AC Milan vice-president Adriano Galliani has confirmed they have made an offer for Montpellier centre-back Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa.

Yanga-Mbiwa, 23, helped ensure that the French side had the best defensive record in the league last season on the way to the Ligue 1 title and has attracted attention for his fine performances.

Milan are looking to replace Brazilian star Thiago Silva, who was sold to PSG this summer, and long-serving defender Alessandro Nesta, who moved to MLS side Montreal Impact.

"We have made an offer and we'll travel to Montpellier shortly. We'll see what happens. It's a matter of money," Galliani told La Gazzetta dello Sport.

However, the clubs seem to be quite far apart on price as Montpellier president Louis Nicollin reacted angrily to the reports.

Nicollin said a few days ago: "Yanga-Mbiwa will not leave. This is clear as day. In order to have advanced negotiations with Milan, we would need to have an agreement. We don't have an agreement, so there are no advanced negotiations!

"I know that they offered around €6m, but even triple that would not be enough. I am not even looking for a replacement, so he will definitely not be leaving. I don't care if he's nearing the end of his contract. It's not important and I don't care!"
