Fabio Simplicio has moved to J-League side Cerezo Osaka after leaving Roma.
The former Brazil international midfielder joined Roma in 2010 but slipped down the pecking order at the Stadio Olympico.
His contract there was terminated a year early by mutual consent, and Cerezo - 15th in the J-League and just two points clear of the relegation zone - came in for him.
"I understand that the club [are] in a tough situation," the 32-year-old said. "That's why I want to play my best and contribute to Cerezo as quickly as possible."
Cerezo, coached by Sergio Soares, have sold midfielders Hiroshi Kiyotake and Kim Bo-kyung to Nuremberg and Cardiff, while Takihiro Ogihara and Hotaru Yamaguchi are in Japan's squad at the London Olympics.
Simplicio first moved to Italian football in 2004, joining Parma, and also played for Palermo.
