McGregor set for Besiktas move

Former Rangers goalkeeper Allan McGregor is poised to complete a move to Turkish club Besiktas after undergoing a medical in Istanbul.

McGregor, 30, was one of many players who declined to transfer their contracts to Charles Green's newco Rangers after the old club was liquidated earlier in the summer.

The Scotland international is expected to sign a two-year contract at Besiktas. Although the newco is likely to dispute his right to move, other ex-Rangers players who have found new clubs have been granted temporary international clearance by FIFA.

The Scottish Football Association was unable to rule on the clearance because newco Rangers have yet to gain membership.

Earlier this week, Green said he was hopeful that the newco would soon be granted membership, enabling it to play in the Scottish Third Division next season.

"We are making good progress," he told Rangers TV on Tuesday. "I spoke to the chief executive of the SFA, Stewart Regan, and that went very well.

"I have also spoken to [SFA board member] Neil Doncaster... and I'm really hopeful now that we can have this thing signed and sealed.

"Most of the things are now clear to all parties. As far as I am concerned now, we have no outstanding issues with the SFA. It's now purely process and documentation. We have no issues with the Football League and just some minor points to resolve with the SPL."
