Canaries agree fee for Snodgrass

Norwich City have agreed a fee for the Leeds United captain Robert Snodgrass.

Leeds officials confirmed that a bid - thought to be around £2.5 million - has been accepted by the Elland Road hierarchy, and that 24-year-old Snodgrass has left a pre-season training camp in Devon to begin contract talks.

Leeds manager Neil Warnock told the club's official website: "I was hoping he would have had a change of heart, and I can honestly say that, in all my time in football, I've never worked as hard in trying to keep a player.

"He was offered the best contract, the captaincy, and we would have built a team around him, so I am very disappointed.

"He's made it clear what he wants to do, and he's had his head turned. He wants to play in the Premier League.

"He believes his Scotland international career may be better served in the Premier League, but I'm not so sure."

The Canaries had an offer for the Scottish midfielder rejected by the Championship club earlier this summer but returned with an improved bid.

The left-sided Snodgrass was voted the Leeds players' and fans' Player of the Year last season after scoring 13 goals and racking up 14 assists. He joined Leeds from Livingston in 2008, making 168 league appearances and scoring 41 goals in all competitions.

Speaking at the weekend, Warnock's Carrow Road counterpart, Chris Hughton, said: "Everybody now is aware that we have made a bid for him.

"With any players you identify and wish to bring to the club, you would rather do it sooner than later. In most occasions that is not the case... there is no doubt that over the next few weeks, and certainly the last couple of weeks of the window, the bulk of business will be done."

After Leeds had rejected a first Norwich bid for their skipper, Warnock said: "We'd like to keep Rob, and Rob knows that. Whether that will be possible, we'll have to wait and see.

"It's difficult when players get their heads turned, but I'd like to keep Rob at the club. Unless they [Norwich] come up with a valuation that the club thinks is satisfactory then that's what we want to do."

The Canaries are also poised to add to their defensive options, with Michael Turner undergoing a medical at Carrow Road after terms were agreed with Sunderland. Central defender Turner, 28, joined Sunderland from Hull in 2009.
