Modric sorry for Tottenham absence

Luka Modric has apologised for going AWOL, but it would appear Tottenham are still resigned to the Croatian star leaving the club this summer.

Modric missed training last week and caused further unrest when failing to make the flight for the club's pre-season trip to North America. He is keen on securing a move away from White Hart Lane, with Real Madrid in the hunt for his signature.

The midfielder returned to training at Tottenham's London base on Monday, following stinging criticism from his manager Andre Villas-Boas. Spurs are considering flying Modric out for the final leg of their North America trip, with Villas-Boas confirming there has been a thawing of relations.

"He has spoken to me and to the chairman," Villas-Boas confirmed following Tottenham's draw with LA Galaxy. "His apology has come and it is welcomed."

Despite Modric's apology, it would appear as if the player will be sold if Spurs' valuation is matched. Villas-Boas continued: "He is training and hopefully we can make the right decision in the future. We are just waiting on the bidding clubs to offer the right value for a player of a big dimension.

"He is an extremely good player who has helped Tottenham achieve success in the past couple of years. I think the fact it has been difficult for us to deal with clubs is because of Luca's dimension as a player and what he has done for the team.

"He is still our player at the moment and I am counting on him."
