Torres: Chelsea can win title

Chelsea striker Fernando Torres has set his sights on winning the Premier League title as he looks to put another season of ups and downs at Stamford Bridge behind him.

• Live Transfer Blog: On the Move

The Blues sacked manager Andre Villas-Boas in March but recovered under caretaker boss Roberto Di Matteo to win the FA Cup and Champions League.

Torres largely played second-fiddle to Didier Drogba, who has since joined Chinese side Shanghai Shenhua, under Di Matteo, and featured from the substitutes' bench late on in the Champions League final against Bayern Munich.

But the Spain striker, who arrived in the United States on Tuesday to link up with his touring club-mates for the first time since his country's European Championship triumph, is adamant he could add another prize to his new-found trophy haul.

"I would love to win a Premier League," Torres said on his personal website. "Hopefully it will happen this year, but for sure we will be challenging for it."

"In my opinion, the equality between the big English teams is at a peak. You just have to look at the way City sealed the title, at the last gasp, and how the team that won the Champions League finished sixth."

Chelsea have the chance to lay down a challenge to Manchester City when the sides meet in the Community Shield on August 12.

"That's how the (Community Shield) will be, a battle from start to finish between two teams who are obliged to fight for everything this season in England and in Europe," Torres added.

Torres left Atletico Madrid to join Liverpool in 2007, before signing for Chelsea in 2011, and believes the UEFA Super Cup against his boyhood club - who won the 2012 Europa League - in August could be the most memorable match of his career.

"It's going to be full of conflicting emotions," he said. "Meeting a team that you carry in your heart has to be different: a European final with a title at stake. That's not bad, is it?"
