Blaszczykowski signs new deal

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Jakob Blaszczykowski has signed a new four-year contract at the club, having been linked with a move to the Premier League this summer.

Blaszczykowski, 26, followed an impressive title-winning 2011-12 campaign by captaining Poland at this summer's Euro 2012, with his impressive performances leading to suggestions of a big move.

The right-sided midfielder, though, has committed his future to Dortmund, signing a contract that will keep him at the Westfalenstadion until 2016.

"I am very happy to be remaining in Dortmund," Blaszczykowski said. "There are not many clubs who have so many fans and who have achieved what we have done over the past two years. I am very happy about this new contract.

"I played the way I want to play [last season], and that is how things should continue. We want to do better in the Champions League too, and we have the quality for it."

The midfielder joined Dortmund from Wisla Krakow in 2007 and has gone on to become a major player from the Bundesliga side, playing an important role in the club's back-to-back title succeses.
