Barry Robson's second-half penalty secured a 2-1 Major League Soccer triumph for the Vancouver Whitecaps against the Western Conference-leading San Jose Earthquakes on Sunday night.
MLS: Vancouver 2-1 San Jose
Alan Gordon had headed the Earthquakes back on level terms seven minutes before the break, cancelling out Dane Richards' opener, but the Whitecaps went ahead for the second time in the 61st minute and this time there was no way back.
Brazilian Camilo went down under the challenge of Sam Cronin, with Scotsman Robson blasting home the resulting spot-kick.
The result left San Jose four points clear of Real Salt Lake at the summit, with third-placed Vancouver moving to within nine points of the leaders after 22 games.
