Ganso looks to make mark at Olympics

Brazil midfielder Ganso is hoping to make a significant impression at the Olympic Games.

• Atkins: Ganso the fallen star
• Ganso suggests he will stay

Ganso had been tipped by many to become a major star, but the Santos man has suffered with a succession of injuries and often struggled to maintain his form.

Internacional playmaker Oscar has seemingly moved ahead of Ganso in the pecking order for the national team ahead of the Olympics, but the 22-year-old hopes he can still make an impact in London.

"In training sessions and in matches, I always try to be a starter," he said. "Oscar is doing very well - he played very well in the friendlies. He is in an excellent moment.

"I had an injury; I am still regaining match sharpness. I hope that I will be a starter again and be a reference in midfield.

"After so many negative things, I have turned things around. There are still many good things left to happen in my life. I am only 22 years old."

Porto forward Hulk, meanwhile, is upbeat about Brazil's chances of success.

"Who would not like to be a champion? We know about Brazil's history - that would be something unprecedented," he said. "We have a group of players who are very united. We will not waver, we are all very focused."
