Cooper sends Red Bulls to summit

New York Red Bulls moved top of Major League Soccer's Eastern Conference with a 2-0 win over Philadelphia Union.

• Highlights: FC Dallas 5-0 Portland
• Highlights: Galaxy 3-1 Chivas USA

Two headers from Kenny Cooper - one either side of half-time - did the trick for New York at Red Bull Arena, ending the Union's three-game winning streak.

Sporting Kansas City could have swiftly reclaimed first place with victory over New England Revolution but could not find the breakthrough at Livestrong Sporting Park as the visitors picked up a rare point away from home in a 0-0 draw.

Real Salt Lake moved four points behind the Western Conference-leading San Jose Earthquakes with a 2-0 triumph over the Colorado Rapids, Alvaro Saborio opening the scoring in the 32nd minute and Will Johnson sealing the points at the death.

Landon Donovan scored twice in the second half to lift Los Angeles Galaxy to a 3-1 victory over Chivas USA. Ireland captain Robbie Keane gave the MLS Cup champions a 14th-minute lead at the Home Depot Center, with Paolo Cardozo's first goal for Chivas halving the deficit soon after Donovan had made it 2-0 early in the second half.

Portland Timbers' miserable away form continued as they went down 5-0 at FC Dallas. The Timbers have not won away from home all season.

Colombian defender Hanyer Mosquera set Dallas on their way with an early own goal and further strikes from Andrew Jacobson, Jackson, Scott Sealy and Ruben Luna completed the rout.

Houston Dynamo climbed to third in the Eastern Conference thanks to a 3-0 triumph over Montreal Impact, Macoumba Kandji (two) and Bobby Boswell the men on target.

Dynamo leapfrogged DC United, who slipped to fourth spot after a 1-0 loss at Columbus Crew. Chris Birchall scored the game's only goal - his first for the Crew.
