West Ham sign striker Maiga
West Ham have announced the signing of Sochaux striker Modibo Maiga for an undisclosed fee.
Maiga, 24, has been linked with the Premier League for some time and becomes the Hammers' fifth signing of the summer, following Mohamed Diame, George McCartney, Jussi Jaaskelainen and Stephen Henderson.
With 24 goals in 59 games in two years at the Ligue 1 club, Maiga arrives with a reputation for goalscoring and will be an important player if West Ham are to survive in the Premier League.
"I am really happy and excited about joining West Ham United," Maiga told the club's official site. "I know West Ham are a big club in England and I'm really looking forward to representing them. They have huge tradition and it is like joining part of a family and that is one of the main reasons I wanted to come here.
"I know some of the big names that have played for the club in the past and I am proud to be part of a new team back in the Premier League."
The Mali international came close to joining Newcastle in December, but failed a medical leading the Magpies to turn their attention to Papiss Demba Cisse.
