Cech hopes for right blend

Petr Cech hopes that Chelsea strike the "right balance" of youth and experience in the 2012-13 season under new permanent manager Roberto Di Matteo.

Di Matteo took over from the sacked Andre Villas-Boas on an interim basis in March, the latter having struggled to implement his ideals at Stamford Bridge as he attempted to freshen up an ageing squad.

The Italian proved a successful appointment and he went on to guide the Blues to Champions League and FA Cup glory, earning him a full-time contract with the West London club.

This summer has seen experienced striker Didier Drogba leave Chelsea while youngsters Marko Marin and Eden Hazard have so far been recruited, and Cech is excited ahead of the new campaign.

"It is important for a team to have new players, young players and experienced players," Cech said in The Independent. "I hope we find the right balance to go through the season and have success.

"If you have the coach of the team who wins the Champions League and the FA Cup you expect that to happen. That is good as all the players know what to expect from the manager already. We don't start from zero."

Villas-Boas has recently returned to management at Tottenham, and when asked if it was a surprise to see the Portuguese back, Cech added: "No, because Andre showed he is a great manager before he came to us, that is why the club brought him in.

"We were doing the right things on the training ground but we were not able to transfer this into games.

"It became an issue because we were not able to find the reasons for that, but I believe he will have a different story with Spurs."
