Liverpool agree fee for Borini

Liverpool are closing in on Roma striker Fabio Borini after agreeing a fee in the region of £8 million, according to reports.

Roma only purchased Borini outright in June, paying nearly £4 million in order to acquire the remaining 50% of the player's economic rights from Parma.

Borini, 21, worked under Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers at both Swansea and Chelsea. A deal is expected to go through within the next 48 hours, with just personal terms and a medical set to be completed.

An ESPN source said: "The player is in Liverpool now and undergoing a medical and discussing personal terms. There is therefore still a little way to go before the transfer is complete."

Borini's agent, Marco De Marchi, revealed on Wednesday that the striker was "seriously considering" the offer on the table to move to Anfield, and it seems he is now keen to try again in England.

Meanwhile, Roma coach Zdenek Zeman hopes has targeted Genoa forward Mattia Destro as a likely replacement for Liverpool-bound Borini.

The 21-year-old, who has also been linked with a move to Inter Milan, played on loan at Siena last season and scored 13 goals in 30 appearances. He is under contract with the Genoa until June 2015.

"Destro is a striker that I like," Zeman said. "He is a young talent."
