Russia to announce job candidates

The Russian Football Union (RFU) is to take the unusual step of posting its shortlist for the country's vacant managerial position on Tuesday, with former England manager Fabio Capello believed to be on it.

Russia are on the hunt for a new head coach after Dick Advocaat stepped down after two years at the helm following their failure to advance past the group stage at Euro 2012.

The RFU issued a statement on its website over the weekend denying reports it had already signed a contract with a new coach, amid conjecture ex-Barcelona coach Pep Guardiola and former England manager Fabio Capello are in the frame after Roberto Mancini signed a new deal with Manchester City.

The footballing body will now name the official candidates for the job on Tuesday. "Because of numerous reports about the so-called agreed candidates ... and having former RFU chief (Sergei Fursenko) signing contracts with them, the RFU would like to officially state that at the moment, it has not signed any contracts with any possible candidates," the RFU said.

"Also, on Tuesday, July 10, a list of coaches will be published on the RFU's official website and with whom the RFU will start contract negotiations."

Russia have been drawn alongside Portugal, Israel, Northern Ireland, Azerbaijan and Luxembourg in Group F of qualifying for the 2014 World Cup.
