The numbers behind Arsenal's striker search

Spurs seal Sigurdsson deal

Tottenham Hotspur have announced the signing of Iceland international Gylfi Sigurdsson from Hoffenheim.

• Spurs appoint Villas-Boas
• Sigurdsson hints at Reds move

Sigurdsson, 22, excelled during a loan spell with Swansea City last season and had been expected to tie up a permanent deal at the Liberty Stadium after two years in the Bundesliga.

However, new Swans boss Michael Laudrup said during his first press conference that it would be difficult to complete the signing due to the interest of "bigger clubs" and, though Liverpool had been believed to be in pole position, it later emerged he was due to sign for Spurs.

A statement on the Tottenham official website read: "We are delighted to announce that we have completed the transfer of Gylfi Sigurdsson from Hoffenheim."

Sigurdsson, who scored seven goals in 19 appearances for Swansea, becomes the club's first signing since the appointment of Andre Villas-Boas as head coach on Tuesday.
