Rodgers confident Suarez will stay

Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers has held talks with Luis Suarez and is optimsitic that the striker will stay at Anfield.

Suarez had a turbulent 2011-12 season, proving his quality with a string of high-class displays but also courting controversy after being hit with a long ban for racially abusing Manchester United defender Patrice Evra.

The Uruguay forward said last season that he was keen to sign a new deal, but has since been linked with a move to Italian giants Juventus. New Reds boss Rodgers is aware of the speculation but is confident the striker remains committed to the club.

"I've had a brilliant chat with Luis," Rodgers told talkSPORT. "He's really looking forward to being here and we are obviously hoping that we can get him on to another new contract. He's really looking forward to the new season."

Rodgers is looking to stamp his own mark on the Liverpool squad and has his eye on three or four signings that can make a positive impact.

"I'm looking forward to bringing in three or four players that can really affect the group," he said. "I've got a wonderful group of players here at the moment.

"I read every day players that are linked with here and unfortunately, especially for the supporters, it's a difficult time because you've got agents linking players with Liverpool just purely because it's great for them to be linked with such an institution of a club.

"But the reality is there are very few players who can come and make a difference to Liverpool."
