Striker Lafferty joins Rangers exodus

Rangers striker Kyle Lafferty has moved to Switzerland, joining FC Sion on a three-year contract.

Northern Ireland international Lafferty was one of ten players who declined to transfer their contract to Charles Green's "newco" Rangers. Parma had also expressed an interest in signing him.

He joined Rangers from Burnley in 2008, playing more than 100 games for them. A statement on FC Sion's official website said: "He will be presented at a press conference on Monday, then will join his new team-mates for training."

His departure was announced minutes after it was confirmed that Steven Whitaker had also left Ibrox, moving south of the border to join Norwich City.

Whittaker, who spent five years at Ibrox after joining from Hibernian for £2 million, said: "All of my experience to date has been in Scotland, so I am really looking forward to the challenge of playing in the Premier League - I'm very excited about it."
