Roma complete Marquinho swoop

Roma have finalised a permanent move for Brazilian midfielder Marquinho after agreeing a €3.5 million fee with Fluminense.

Marquinho, 25, initially joined the Giallorossi on a six-month loan deal in January and they have now moved to tie him down to a long-term deal.

It had appeared earlier this week that the move for the midfielder, who can also play as a wing-back, had broken down as the deadline for Roma taking up a permanent option had passed.

But talks with Marquinho soon resumed and a transfer was quickly agreed.

A statement from Roma said: "AS Roma announces that it has exercised the option to purchase outright the registration of the player Marco Antonio De Mattos Filho (Marquinho), with the recognition in favour of FC Fluminense a fee of €3.5 million.

"The first instalment, amounting to €2 million, will be paid by July 10, 2012 and the second, of €1.5 million, by no later than July 10, 2013. With the player, the club has signed a contract until June 30, 2016."
