No Rodallega mistake

Wigan chief executive Jonathan Jackson has defended the club's decision to retain Hugo Rodallega in January and allow him to leave on a free transfer this summer.

Rodallega, 26, is Wigan's all-time record Premier League goalscorer, but has failed to agree a new deal at the club and will be free to join any side on a free transfer from July 1.

The Colombian was linked to a host of clubs in January, with Wigan set to cash in on the player, but no agreement could be reached.

"For any transfer to take place, there has to be agreement with three parties," Jackson told the Wigan Evening Post.

"Both clubs and the player have to want the deal to happen - and we never achieved that with regards to Hugo. We moved on, and Hugo was our player for the rest of the season. At the time it was the right decision, and that remains the case."

Rodallega joined the Latics from Mexican side Necaxa in January 2009, scoring 24 Premier League goals for the North-West side.
